Going into the 2020 football season, LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster.
Over the summer, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Tom Herman this season.
Today, we will be looking at redshirt freshman cornerback Kenyatta Watson II.
Kenyatta Watson II, Cornerback
Height: 6-1 / Weight: 190
Class: Redshirt freshman
Hometown: Loganville, Georgia
High School: Grayson
HS ranking (247Sports): Four-star / No. 28 position / No. 31 in-state
HS ranking (Rivals): Four-star / No. 112 overall / No. 13 position / No. 12 in-state
Analysis: Redshirting during the 2019 season, Watson II saw playing time in four games. Facing off against Louisiana Tech, West Virginia, Iowa State and Texas Tech, he had six tackles on the season and one pass break up.
Watson was a four-star prospect coming out of Georgia, a state producing some of the best talent in the country in recent recruiting cycles. The 247Sports composite had him ranked as a top 150 player, coming in at No. 131 nationally.
As of now, Watson is listed as a backup cornerback on our projected depth chart going into the 2020 season. Texas’ secondary should be the strong suit of the defense next season. Watson II’s role should increase, but not become a main defensive back just yet.
