Going into the 2020 football season, LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster.
Over the summer, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Tom Herman this season.
Today, we start out with true freshman quarterback Hudson Card.
Hudson Card, Quarterback
Height: 6-2 / Weight: 183
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Austin, Texas
High School: Lake Travis
HS ranking (247Sports): Four-star / No. 57 overall / No. 2 dual-threat QB / No. 7 in-state
HS ranking (Rivals): Four-star / No. 107 overall / No. 3 dual-threat QB / No. 11 in-state
Analysis: One of the early enrollees from the 2020 recruiting class, Austin native Hudson Card could be seen as the successor to Sam Ehlinger. While Ehlinger hails from Westlake High School, Card comes from rival Lake Travis High School 23 miles to the west.
Listed as a dual-threat quarterback by major recruiting websites, Card ran for 1,359 yards during his three varsity seasons. He even got playing time at wide receiver his sophomore season, having over 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns on 69 receptions.
As for the 2020 season, the best Card will be able to do is compete for the backup quarterback spot with Casey Thompson. Going into the 2021 season, it will be an open competition with him having the opportunity to become the future face of the Texas Longhorns.
