Longhorns in the NFL: Former Texas punter named NFC Player of the Week

Seahawks punter Michael Dickson was awarded NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Patriots.

It’s been a great week for Texas ex’s in the NFL.

Several former Longhorns made big-time plays for their respective teams this past week, but none had a better showing than Seattle Seahawks punter Michael Dickson.

Against the New England Patriots in Week 2, all four of Dickson’s punts landed inside the 20 yard line. He also averaged 50 yards per punt with no return yardage, earning NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his impressive effort.

It’s Dickson’s second time earning Player of the Week honors, but likely won’t be his last. He was drafted in the fifth round, No. 149 overall, in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Seahawks. Dickson quickly won the starting job for Seattle after beating out longtime veteran Jon Ryan. As a rookie, he earned first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors.

Texas fans know all too well how quickly he can impact a game. Shortly after the Longhorns defeated Missouri in the 2017 Texas Bowl, Dickson was awarded MVP honors — the first non-offensive player to be named MVP in Texas Bowl history.
