Leonard Williams had a lot of positive things to say about the New York Giants offense and Evan Neal after Day 2 of training camp.
Williams has been a dominant force so far in camp even, getting his practice jersey ripped by the offensive line (due to holding) on the first day. And while many may take this as a negative for the Giants’ offensive line, this is just Williams showing why he has recorded 18 sacks in the last two seasons.
Williams has had seven years of development in the NFL where he has been one of the better defensive linemen in the league. His knowledge and experience are crucial for Big Blue as they are one of the youngest teams in the NFL.
One of the youngest players on the team is Neal, the Giants’ seventh overall draft pick. The 21-year-old offensive tackle is just starting to get the hang of things but has definitely made an impact in training camp thus far.
“Evan Neal, he is going to be a great player — it’s fun going against him,” Williams told reporters on Thursday.
Iron sharpens iron and it will be a great opportunity for Neal to go against the likes of Williams and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Williams also had some praise for Brian Daboll’s new offense and its ability to generate confusion for the defense.
“Yeah, I think it does,” he said. “The offense is showing a lot of diversity, and it definitely confuses defenses. I think when you have enough weapons on offense, you allow your offense to have that type of diversity. I think it’s good for the offense.”
It’s still early in camp, but it’s good to see a veteran like Williams pick up on these changes that the Giants’ front office attempted to make this offseason.
