Texas A&M (5-4, 3-3 SEC) is coming off one of their more heartbreaking losses this season, falling to the 10th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels 38-35 after an unprecedented second-half offensive surge gave the Aggies momentum in the fourth quarter, only to fall short once again in the final minutes.
While Texas A&M is way on the outside looking in, the SEC as a whole continued to represent in the newest AP Top 25 Poll, including the Ole Miss Rebels, who kept their College Football Playoff hopes alive after escaping the Aggies’ and avoiding OT.
However, unlike the newest US LBM Coaches Poll, the Aggies received one vote in the latest poll, coming in at No. 36 in the rankings. How is that possible, you may ask? Three of Texas A&M’s four losses are by one score (as frustrating as that is); this is a sign that the Aggies are still respected on the field.
Nearly a 20-point favorite this weekend, A&M will host the struggling Mississippi State with their sights set on earning their sixth win and bowl eligibility.
Elsewhere in the poll, Texas A&M’s future SEC opponent in Oklahoma dropped seven spots to No. 17 after falling to Oklahoma State in the final showdown between both programs until further notice. After an embarrassing road loss to Clemson, Notre Dame dropped ten spots to No. 22, while the Arizona Wildcats first appeared in the poll at No. 23.
Back atop the rankings, the Top 5 remains unchanged, with No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Florida State, and No. 5 Washington. In contrast, No. 11 Louisville continues to move up the rankings, rising four spots just below No. 10 Ole Miss.
