Lady Vols earn fifth consecutive shutout

The Lady Vols earn its fifth consecutive shutout.

No. 12 Tennessee (11-1) earned a 5-0 victory against UIC (0-13) to end play in the USF Tournament in Tampa, Florida.

The Lady Vols scored three runs in the first inning as McKenna Gibson had a two-run double.

Gibson scored on a bunt single by Zaids Puni, extending the Lady Vols’ lead to 3-0.

Tennessee scored two runs in the second inning when Amanda Ahlin stole third base and scored on the throw.

The Lady Vols scored again when Kiki Milloy stole third base and came home on a throw trying to record an out at second base on the double steal.

Milloy walked four times, stole three bases and scored two runs for Tennessee, which notched its fifth consecutive win. Puni had two hits against the Flames.

Pitcher Ashley Simpson started for the Lady Vols. She allowed two walks over three innings and posted seven strikeouts.

Nicola Simpson (1-0) earned the win as she pitched three innings of scoreless relief, surrendering two hits and two walks while recording two strikeouts.

Payton Gottshall closed out the game, pitching one inning and striking out one.
