Kyrie Irving back to arguments with ‘the media’ after coaching comments

Kyrie Irving is back to launching word salad defenses of his own verbal missteps with a clip addressing his coaching commentary Thursday morning.

If we were Brooklyn Nets fans, this sort of thing would be giving us a lot of pause right about now.

And by “this sort of thing,” we mean another round of former Boston Celtic and current Net Kyrie Irving sparring with “the media” over a problem entirely of his own creation.

Fresh on the heels of comments made the very same day seeming to snub  friend and new head coach of the Nets Steve Nash before he’s even held a practice, Irving appeared to take umbrage with how his words were being taken in a recent video he created to address those comments.

As has happened in the past, his response has only thrown fuel on the fire.

“Why must it always be brother against brother?” asked Irving to start the clip (here shared by Twitter user NBA Central). “Why?”

“If I’m addressing anyone, I’ll say their name,” he added in what appears to be a veiled reference to Nash. “C’mon, y’all; don’t listen to the false narratives. Let people live their lives. It’s just a game.”

“Talk about the art, talk about the sport — you talk openly, you talk freely. But, because we live in a click-bait society, it becomes something bigger. You don’t have to defend it; that’s just what media is. It’s entertainment. I’m not going to let it put me against anybody anymore at any point, because that’s not what it’s about. We talk freely, openly — and that’s our society. Say how I feel, you don’t have to put me against anyone else.”

“It’s never been about that. It’s about the love — peace,” he added in closing.

In earnestness, we hope Irving’s professed plans to not let such scenarios pit him “against anybody anymore at any point” pan out.

A good starting point would be to just ignore the furor his comments tend to kick up.
