Sacramento Kings rookie Tyrese Haliburton grew up watching Stephen Curry and even remembers him playing in college at Davidson. On Sunday, Haliburton said the opportunity to match up against Curry on the court was a dream come true.
Haliburton and the Kings faced the Warriors twice at home during the preseason as the 12th overall pick totaled nine points in those two contests. He produced seven points, three rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist in the preseason finale on Thursday, the second game versus the Warriors.
The 20-year-old was tasked with guarding Curry during those two games and found some success against the future Hall of Famer. The two blocks Haliburton recorded on Thursday came against Curry.
“It was awesome,” Haliburton said of playing Curry. “Just being a fan of the game of basketball, when I started to really understand it and watch basketball on my own was when he was at Davidson. I’ve basically been watching him since he came on the public scene. Being able to play against him was, honestly, a dream come true in the sense of I’ve looked up to him since I began playing basketball.”
While Haliburton enjoyed the matchup against Curry, he is also looking forward to seeing LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers this season. He looked up to James for much of his life, so the experience of playing the Lakers for the first time on March 3 will be special for him.
Sacramento tips off the regular season on Wednesday vs. the Denver Nuggets.
