Tennessee incoming freshman Justine Pissott won her first gold medal in international competition Sunday.
Pissott, a 6-foot-4 wing player from Toms River, New Jersey, recorded one rebound and one assist for Team USA.
Team USA defeated Canada, 82-77, in the championship game of the 2022 FIBA U18 Women’s America’s Championship at Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aries, Argentina.
Pissott played seven minutes for Team USA (6-0) and was 0-for-2 from the floor and 0-for-1 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Sunday’s win against Canada is Team USA’s 10th consecutive gold medal in the FIBA U18 Women’s America Championship, and 11th since the tournament’s inception in 1988.
Team USA led, 20-16, after the first quarter and opened a 41-31 advantage by halftime.
Pissott averaged 15.3 minutes per game in the tournament. She averaged 6.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest.
