Justin Fields named to the Davey O’Brien preseason watchlist

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has been named to the Davey O’Brien preseason watchlist as announced this week.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is expected to have one whale of a season if we are able to watch college football on a television set near you this fall. Many preseason accolades are sure to follow, but the first of them is the Davey O’Brien Award preseason watchlist that was announced this week.

The Davey O’Brien Award goes to the best college football quarterback annually and is the oldest of such awards dating back to its inception in 1977. It is handed out by the Davey O’Brien Foundation based out of Fort Worth, Texas.

Sixteen semifinalists selected from the final watch list will be named on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later on Tuesday, Nov. 24. The 2020 Davey O’Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN Thursday, Dec. 10, during The Home Depot College Football Awards with a whole host of other college football awards if the COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t strike it all down.

Heisman winner Troy Smith is the only Ohio State quarterback to win the award. He took home the prize in 2006.
