We’ll all still waiting to hear if the 2020 college football season will be canceled — and by extension — Ohio State’s season. If you want to keep track of everything, we’re updating everything on the status of the season in our coronavirus status report. It has everything you want in one spot and is updated in real-time.
For now though, until we get cancellation news, we’re going to remain optimistic. And despite all the doomsday scenario rumors floating around out there, there are some reasons to see the college football glass half-full as of last night. So, don’t count everything out just yet.
The most interesting development was a uniting effort by literally hundreds of college football players joining in on a #WeWantToPlay movement on Twitter. It was overwhelming, swift, and coordinated when negative news began to swirl about the season being on the precipice of being shelved.
And now this.
Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is helping lead another movement calling for collegiate player representation. In a tweet shared on his profile late Sunday night, Fields and other high profile college athletes like Trevor Lawrence sent out a graphic calling for standards of safety to get the season off the ground, and also called for player representation.

This might be the development many college administrators feared the most. The coronavirus pandemic is one thing, but add efforts of amateurism getting a voice in big money athletics and we might be seeing the catalyst to things changing drastically in college sports.
It’s an interesting development to the current pandemic, and one that could and likely will gain further traction. This, on the heels of the Name, Image, and Likeness movement is going to usher in a new — and some argue long-needed — era for amateur college athletes that really don’t have much of a say right now.
This, like almost everything coming out right now, is a developing story.
