Amid nation-wide protests against police brutality and systemic racism stemming from the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25, athletes from all different backgrounds have spoken out with their opinions.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was being interviewed on Yahoo! Finance when he stated, “I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country.”

Former Alabama star running back, and first round pick in 2019 for the then-Oakland Raiders, responded to Brees’s comments with a short tweet.

Jacobs isn’t the only NFL star to speak out against the quarterback’s comments. Even players from his own team condemned the remarks.
However, less than a day later, Brees publicly apologized. Some accepted, others did not.
It was clear to Jacobs, though, that his comments were based on a lack of knowledge regarding why the players knelt during the national anthem.

The former Alabama star praises Brees for his community service work, but feels as if he did not fully understand the message being conveyed.
