On one hand, it’s nice to see Josh Allen standing up for a teammate and taking the side of receiver Stefon Diggs. He has been connected to numerous headlines throughout the offseason.
Then again, Allen hasn’t really missed the mark this much since his rookie season.
After everything that unfolded involving the receiver at minicamp, Allen pointed the blame at the media saying they have “blown this so far out of proportion” during an appearance on Barstool Sports.
Diggs has had a slight track record of getting his name out in places he probably does not like. But then again, this one has to do with head coach Sean McDermott rather than the receiver or media.
When Diggs was not at Buffalo’s first day of minicamp practice, alarm bells started to ring because McDermott described it as “very” concerning.
Had the coach gone in another direction in that moment, the headlines surrounding the Bills could be different.
A day after making that comment, McDermott said the situation between the team and Diggs was all good.
Since that seemed like a massive turn of events in less than 24 hours and a bit of a stretch, many were skeptical.
Time is the only real thing that could heal, and right now there’s no football going on until training camp begins at the end of the July. Once things get going there, the Diggs situation will disappear if there are no hiccups.
Regardless, it was a bit of a reach by Allen since, as referenced, the worry only began once McDermott tossed gas instead of water on this fire.
Even so, in the same light Allen isn’t going to go against his coach much like he would defend Diggs.
