Josh Allen calls Stefon Diggs QBs ‘best friend’

If Bills fans are excited for Stefon Diggs’ arrival, consider Josh Allen very excited.

If Bills fans are excited for Stefon Diggs’ arrival, consider Josh Allen very excited.

The quarterback spent a few minutes giving an offseason chat with reporters on Friday via video chat and gave his first analysis of his team’s acquisition of the wide receiver. As expected, there was some big-time praise for his new top target.

“He’s a big-time player and he’s got the respect of every defense out there. When he can run routes and double move and get open and consistently make plays, that becomes a quarterback’s best friend,” Allen said.

Allen also sees what many see in Diggs.

“He’s one of the best route runners in the league; he makes these unbelievable contested catches,” Allen said.

In general, the hope is for most players, especially quarterbacks, is that they see things all come together by Year 3 in their career. Allen knows those are his expectations as well.

“What we have going on is a special thing,” Allen said. “I understand how big of a year it is.”

Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane said he’s confident Allen will take that next step in 2020. His move to trade for Diggs shows that, too. But there’s certainly now some extra pressure on Allen to produce too.

But Diggs should help Allen’s output, and that of others as well.

The hope for the Bills is that Diggs now gives their quarterback a top option in the passing game. If things add up right, that should make Allen’s life easier next season. But Allen said John Brown and Cole Beasley are going to still be part of the plan as well. Diggs will help, not hurt there, he said.

“It’s going to open up some things in our offense and teams want to try and double team Stefon, it’ll open up other things,” Allen said.
