Joseph Ossai believes Texas football is capable of ‘damage’ in 2020

Joseph Ossai recently joined Longhorns Lunch Break to discuss his current routine and future expectations for Texas football.

The hype surrounding Joseph Ossai is real.

With new defensive coordinator Chris Ash, Ossai is expected to get after the quarterback this season. He was able to showcase a glimpse of what he’s capable of against Utah in the Valero Alamo Bowl by recording three sacks and six tackles for loss, earning defensive MVP.

Although the 2020 college football season hasn’t started yet, Mel Kiper has already listed Ossai as one of the top five draft prospects at his position for the 2021 NFL Draft. In regards to his newfound draft hype, Ossai is only focused on winning a National Championship.

Ossai is a part of the team’s leadership council, where he’s spent the majority of his quarantine time holding teammates accountable and watching film. He’s currently living in his apartment in Austin with roommate and running back Keontay Ingram.

All that they seem to do is work out and prepare as much as possible for the upcoming season. Ossai joined Longhorns Lunch Break recently and spoke of his current routine and future expectations.

Ossai credits Zoom meetings for helping his teammates stay connected and focused while they’re apart. He stressed the importance of holding each other accountable and provide encouragement where needed.

In terms of his new role on the defense, Ossai is most excited about making the job easier on the defensive backs. Ultimately, his goal is to develop the defensive line until they’re the best unit in the country.

In just one word, Ossai stated what he believes the Longhorns are capable of this upcoming season. Damage. He expects to create chaos and confusion at the line of scrimmage, become the foundation of the defense.

Ossai demonstrates high character and sets a great example for teammates on and off the field. The Longhorns are fortunate to have him as a leader.
