Joel Embiid pulls up in hazmat suit and all for flight to Orlando

Sixers big man Joel Embiid is doing everything he can to stay safe ahead of the Orlando restart.

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid made sure he’s as safe as possible before heading on the flight to Orlando.

The Sixers flew to Orlando on Thursday for the NBA’s restart, and Embiid pulled up wearing a mask, hazmat suit and gloves prior to the team’s flight, according to a video from NBC Sports Philadelphia. The attire may seem extreme to some, but COVID-19 is a disease that should be taken seriously.

Embiid expressed recently how he “hated” the idea of the Orlando bubble, saying that he wants to stay safe and healthy. But he acknowledged he wants to help his team as well, so he will be playing at Disney World.

The Sixers will play their first seeding game Aug. 1 against the Indiana Pacers.

As the Sixers prepare for the restart, they are currently the sixth seed in the East. They have already clinched a playoff spot, so the seeding games will be primarily used to regain basketball shape and chemistry.

A three-time All-Star, Embiid needs to have his best postseason to date for the Sixers to have success. The regular season has been a slight down year for him. He has scored 23.4 points per game, grabbed 11.8 rebounds and shot 47.4% from the field.

In two career playoff appearances, Embiid has scored 20.7 points per game, grabbed 11.4 rebounds and shot 43.1% from the field.
