Joel Embiid injury update: What we know about 76ers star’s knee injury

Joel Embiid will be back.

During Friday night’s Wizards game, everything stopped for a moment after Joel Embiid dunked the ball and landed awkwardly on his leg.

He immediately fell to the ground and was in some very clear pain. All of a sudden, his MVP-caliber season felt like it could’ve potentially ended that moment. He got up and limped off of the floor under his own power, but everyone still feared the worst.

The 76ers immediately classified the injury as a “hyperextension,” per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi. He was set to have an MRI on Saturday morning to see if there was any significant damage done.

Today, 76ers fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The MRI revealed that there was no structural damage, per Wojnarowski, and that his meniscus and ACL were both fine. He has a deep bone bruise.

This is incredible news. Yes, Embiid will miss some time. But it’s much better than what the alternative was.

Hopefully, he won’t miss too much time and will be able to pick up right where he left off with his MVP-level play.
