JJ Redick on how he nearly became a Boston Celtics assistant coach

Redick would ultimately pass on the opportunity given how little time he would have had to get ready for the season to come but still has an interest in making the leap to the other side of the clipboard.

Now perhaps as well known for his “Old Man and the 3” podcast as for his knockdown shot as an NBA player, JJ Redick recently revealed on his podcast how he nearly ended up an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics last season in a conversation with Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla.

He recalls how he had planned a trip to Boston and received a call from team president Brad Stevens about working with Mazzulla, who had just been named interim head coach of the team. The duo attempted to convince Redick to join the coaching staff during a round of golf and lunch.
