The Jets may have to turn to their third-string slot cornerback in Week 16 unless a Christmas miracle happens between now and Sunday.
Javelin Guidry (knee) was held out of practice for the second straight day on Thursday. The undrafted free agent rookie cornerback’s status for Sunday’s game doesn’t look too promising.
Over the past three games, Guidry has done an admirable job filling in for Brian Poole, who is out for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. New York would have to reach further into its depth against Cleveland, with either Corey Ballentine or Elijah Campbell playing the slot. Normally, Arthur Maulet would slide into that role, but he’ll be manning the “field” safety position for the foreseeable future.
As for La’Mical Perine, the rookie running back is practicing this week, but Adam Gase was non-committal about his return to the active roster. Gase added that the Jets will likely wait until the end of the week before making a decision, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini,
Perine was placed on injured reserve in late November with a high-ankle sprain. The Jets designated Perine to return to practice last week and they have a 21-day window to activate him.
Frank Gore did not practice on Thursday as the veteran received a rest day, while Jeff Smith (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice. After being limited participants on Wedneday, Josh Andrews, Jamison Crowder, John Franklin-Myers, Frankie Luvu and Denzel Mims were upgraded to full participants on Thursday.
