JD Davison could prove to be Alabama’s key to a late run

Alabama’s JD Davison could help give the Tide the boost they need here late in the season

What a roller coaster of a season it has been for Nate Oats and the Alabama basketball team. They have incredible wins over Gonzaga, Houston, and Baylor, but also have head-scratching losses to teams like Missouri and Georgia.

The three-point shooting has simply not been there for the Tide, especially as of late, but on Wednesday night, the team seemed to find its stroke against the Ole Miss Rebels. A big part of Alabama’s success against the Rebels was due to the play of true freshman guard JD Davison who finished the contest with 18 points, 8 assists, and 3 rebounds while connecting on 7 of his 8 shot attempts.

The outstanding play of Davison shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise, the kid was a five-star recruit who, like the team as a whole, has just been a little inconsistent in his first season in Tuscaloosa. But Davison’s play could prove to be the tipping point for the year’s Alabama basketball team.

In the Tide’s last three wins, Davison is averaging 16 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. And in the last three losses for Alabama, Davison is only averaging 4 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds.

Receiving more consistent production from Davison would take a lot of the pressure off fellow backcourt members Jahvon Quinerly and Jaden Shackelford.

Hopefully, Davison and the rest of the Tide can continue its hot-shooting when Alabama takes on Arkansas back in Coleman Coliseum on Saturday morning.
