Jaxon Smith-Njigba: Giants are on the rise

Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who recently met with the New York Giants, views them as a team on the rise.

Although the New York Giants addressed the wide receiver position via free agency, they still hope to improve the weapons surrounding quarterback Daniel Jones.

With the attention now shifting toward the 2023 NFL draft, mock drafts continue to connect Big Blue to a receiver in the first round. And as fate would have it, the Giants met with Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba this week with a little over a month until the draft.

It appears that the Giants’ success in 2022 has caught the attention of Smith-Njigba.

“It was great. Great dinner, great conversation, great people and great coaches. I feel like they’re on the come up,” Smith-Njigba said of the Giants. “You’ve seen it last year; them making the playoffs and them doing their thing. So, you know, I definitely loved meeting with them. We had a great conversation (and) a great time. Happy I got to be able to do that. I would love to be in the Big Apple in New York. It would be a blessing — a dream come true.”

Free agent acquisitions Bobby Okereke and Parris Campbell also identified the Giants as a team headed in the right direction, which attracted them to the team.

Notice a trend developing?

Smith-Njigba (6’1) is one of a few playmaking wideouts of interest for Big Blue. It is unknown if one of those first-round receivers, like Smith-Njigba, will be available at pick No. 25 or if it would require the Giants to trade up.
