Ja’Tavion Sanders records the most receptions by a Texas TE in program history

Ja’Tavion Sanders cemented his name in school history with 54 catches this season.

Sophomore tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders has developed into one of Texas’ top playmakers and leaders on the roster this season.

After primarily only playing with the special teams unit as a freshman, Sanders burst onto the college football scene this year. He started all 12 games in 2022 and was a first-team All-Big 12 selection.

ESPN and Longhorn Network reporter Alex Loeb recently compared how Sanders’ 2022 season stacks up among other tight ends in school history. His 54 receptions is the most by a Texas tight end in a single season.

Sanders concluded the 2022 season with 54 receptions for 613 yards and five touchdowns. At times he still felt underutilized, but figures to be a key contributor and leader for the Longhorns next season.
