When Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams last saw the New York Giants on the field, he was a member of the New York Jets and they were beating down their cross-town rivals in Week 10 of the 2019 season.
A year-plus later, things have changed dramatically. And this time, Adams was on the losing end of things and couldn’t help but to notice a drastic difference with these Giants.
“Mentality, right off the bat. Mentality and confidence,” Adams said when asked what’s different about the 2020 Giants.
The loss was certainly no fault of Adams’. He led the game with 11 tackles (eight solo, one for a loss) and added both a QB hit and sack for good measure.
But that wasn’t enough for Seattle to overcome the extremely hungry Giants on Sunday afternoon, and that left a horrible taste in Adams’ mouth.
“It stings, it stings. I’m [expletive] off,” Adams said. “Coming from where I came from, a New York team, it just hits a little bit different for me.”
A frustrated Adams got briefly combative with a reporter but quickly reeled himself in. It was clear that the emotions were flowing and that this loss, very legitimately, hit the safety much harder than others.
The Seahawks were supposed to beat these Giants. After all, they’re an NFC East team and a laughingstock in the eyes of most. Or at least they were.
“When you lose, you take it as a lesson. There’s always something you could’ve done right to make sure we didn’t have this outcome, individually and as a team,” Adams said. “At the end of the day we didn’t get it done. We didn’t have enough focus. We take that upon us as players, as a staff, as a group, as a team.”
