At this point in the season, it’s obvious why the Philadelphia Eagles are the NFC’s No. 1 seed. Beyond their talent that might comprise the best roster in pro football, Nick Sirianni, Jalen Hurts, and Co. usually put the pedal to the metal. Sunday afternoon against the New York Giants was no different.
With Philadelphia looking to separate itself against a division rival in the first of two late-season matchups, the Eagles weren’t messing around. They wanted to get ahead … by a lot … and put more pressure on a limited New York passing offense. So when the Eagles had a chance to punt on a fourth and long from near midfield in the early second quarter, they put that sort of conservative mentality on ice.
Instead of punting, Jalen Hurts dropped back and dropped a slick bomb downfield for DeVonta Smith — who did the rest of the work to finish an awesome early haymaker TD:

Oh man, talk about knowing to finish a big play in a big situation.
Not only did Smith nab this early 41-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a then-14-0 lead, he also surpassed his pregame over/under of receiving yards with BetMGM. In the early second quarter. That’s what happens when the star quarterback drops a perfect pass in the bucket, and an elusive playmaker makes defenders look silly in the open field.
Uh, yeah — The Eagles are an outstanding football team. Also, grass is generally green.
