The Jacksonville Jaguars released veteran tight end Geoff Swaim Tuesday afternoon, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The move was expected by many for the simple fact that he was a cap casualty in a time where the Jags are heading towards a rebuild. Swaim was scheduled to be a $4.3 million cap hit, however, releasing him saves roughly $3.7 million against the cap. His release will also result in a minimal dead cap hit of $250K, per Spotrac.
The Jags signed Swaim, who was a Dallas Cowboy prior, to a two-year deal worth $6.6 million almost a year ago in hopes that he’d help them at one of the weakest positions on the team. He wasn’t able to do so accumulating just 13 receptions for 65 yards as his season was cut short due to being placed on injured reserve (ankle/concussion) in October.
Per Spotrac, the move puts the Jags at about $27.5 in available cap space.
