Lady Vols’ redshirt senior Jacious Spears broke the school record in the 60-meter dash Friday at the Tiger Paw Invitational. The event was held at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex in Clemson, South Carolina.
Spears’ record-breaking time of 7.12 seconds was posted in the semifinals of the event.
The previous indoor record in the event was held by both Joella Lloyd and and Courtney Champion (7.15 seconds).
Spears’ time Friday was also a facility record and is the top time posted in the SEC this season.
Lloyd won the championship heat of the 60-meter dash (7.17), her best effort of the season. She is fourth in the conference and seventh nationally this season.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Lady Vol Charisma Taylor had a season-best time of 8.06 in the semifinals before posting an 8.08 in the finals to finish second in the event.
In the women’s pole vault, Tennessee had a pair of athletes set personal records. Sarah Schmitt posted a mark of 4.00 meters (13 feet, 1.5 inches) and Kendall Ford had a vault of 3.95 meters (12-11.5).
The Lady Vols also had a pair of sprinters post top times in the 400-meter run. Javonya Valcourt crossed the finish line in 53.33, while Alanna Smith posted a time of 55.97.
Mikele Vickers set a personal-best in the women’s long jump, recording an effort of 6.30 meters (20-8).
Emmanuel Bynum crossed the finish line in 45.67 seconds, setting a personal record.
