‘It is special’: Pacers’ Chris Duarte reacts to Rising Stars selection

Duarte called it a special honor to be selected to participate in the NBA Rising Stars game during All-Star Weekend.

Indiana Pacers rookie Chris Duarte called it a special honor to be selected to participate in the NBA Rising Stars game on Feb. 18 during All-Star Weekend in Cleveland, Ohio.

Duarte, the 13th pick, was among the 12 rookie players chosen by NBA assistant coaches to compete in the annual showcase event. He became the ninth player in team history to be selected and the first since Domantas Sabonis in 2018.

“It is special for me and my family, the organization, my country, the Latino people and everybody that has supported me,” Duarte said. “I’m really excited and looking forward to go there and represent the organization and my family and the people that supported me.”

Duarte is averaging 13.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals in 45 games this season. He ranks sixth in scoring and assists, and second in 3-pointers (77) among all first-year players. He set the Pacers rookie team record for points in a debut with 27 on Oct. 20.

The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the top rookies this season and a key contributor for the Pacers. The hard work put in by Duarte has shown all season long and the rookie was recognized by the league and its coaches, as a result
