Every year, the Seattle Seahawks acquire a veteran, run-stuffing defensive tackle to plug in up the middle. Recent acquisitions include Sheldon Richardson, Shamar Stephen, Tom Johnson and Al Woods, and each have had varying levels of success.
During that time, the Seahawks have frequently been connected to another defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh, who has local ties to the Pacific Northwest and certainly fits the bill as a run-stuffer up the middle.
Suh is once again a free agent, and with Woods and Jarran Reed both set to hit free agency, it’s clear there is a spot for Suh if the two sides can work something out.
Although he’s not the player he once was – when he rattled off five Pro Bowl appearances in a seven-year span from 2010-2016 – Suh still had a solid 2019 campaign, with 41 combined tackles, 14 quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks and four fumble recoveries, two which resulted in touchdowns.
Those numbers would easily provide a boost to a Seahawks defensive line that is currently rostering Poona Ford, Bryan Mone, DeMarcus Christmas and L.J. Collier on the interior.
Additionally, despite his age (33), Suh has hardly ever missed games. He appeared in all 16 contests last year – the eighth consecutive year he has managed that feat.
Suh’s experience, health, and ability to rush the passer and stuff the run would make him an ideal fit along Seattle’s defensive line.
Free agency begins March 18, and Suh is a name for Seahawks fans to keep an eye on.
