Indiana’s Malcolm Brogdon believes chemistry, sacrifice will propel Rockets

Indiana’s Malcolm Brogdon on the Rockets: “The sky is the limit. They are young, but they are talented. They are skilled and have some great athletes in their top young guys.”

Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon was unavailable when Indiana previously played the Rockets in late December, but he knew the team was loaded with young talent. On Friday, he got a chance to see the youth and athleticism of the Rockets as his team came back from a double-digit deficit to get a 121-118 victory at Toyota Center in Houston.

During his postgame press conference, the NBA’s 2017 Rookie of the Year had a chance to elaborate on how far the Rockets have grown and developed since the last meeting between the two teams.

“The sky is the limit for that team,” said Brogdon, who finished with 25 points. “They are young, but they are talented. They are skilled and have some great athletes in their top young guys. For them, it is going to be about chemistry and sacrifice. The more they can play together and each of them are willing to sacrifice. They all can go out there and get 20 points apiece, but that is not going to equate to winning all the time.”

“(Jalen) Green, (Kevin) Porter Jr, and (KJ) Martin, all those guys are going to have to learn to play together,” Brogdon added. “Which they do. I think their coach is trying to get them to play together and I think they are doing a pretty good job. But they are young and there is a learning curve. The NBA is tough and there are no breaks.”

The three-point defeat to the Pacers is one of many close losses the Rockets have had this season on their way to a 17-53 record. Houston will be back in action on Sunday at Toyota Center as they take on Memphis, which currently owns the second-best record (48-23) in the NBA.
