Huskers will be the (blank) team of 2022

A veteran college football writer thinks that the 2022 Nebraska Cornhuskers may be the surprise team of the upcoming season. Late last month, ESPN put out their “College football roundtable: Which team will be the biggest surprise in 2022.” Reporter David Hale selected the Huskers to be the year’s surprise team. It should be noted that Hale doesn’t think that Cornhuskers are a 10-win team or a legitimate Big Ten championship contender, but he thinks the West Division is in play. He writes, “it’s (Nebraska) certainly a bowl team and potentially one that could make a run at the West Division.”

Hale also thinks that after a bad luck season of 2021, things have to change for Scott Frost and company in 2022. He says, “that luck has to change eventually, so here’s betting the football gods swing the pendulum back in the other direction and Scott Frost finally puts together something resembling a successful campaign.” Not exactly a ringing endorsement if you ask me.

We’ll find out if the Husker’s luck has changed for the better this year when they kick off the college football season in Week 0 against Northwestern from Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland.
