The Indianapolis Colts have another spot on the offensive line to replace after right guard Mark Glowinski agreed to a three-year deal with the New York Giants on Monday.
While the Giants signing Glowinski could lead to the Colts getting a 2023 compensatory pick, Indy still needs to find his replacement. Glowinski played 76% of the snaps in 2018—he became the starter in Week 5—while seeing 100%, 100% and 81% of the offensive snaps over the next three seasons, respectively.
The left tackle position will be the biggest spot to address on the offensive line, but who could be Glowinski’s replacement?
The most logical answer already resides on the roster. Third-year guard Danny Pinter is a player the Colts really like. He spent some time working at center when Ryan Kelly missed time, but he was drafted in 2020 to be a guard.
Pinter is an exceptional athlete for an interior offensive lineman. One of his biggest selling points was his ability to move in space, especially when pulling. He showed off some impressive strength at the point of attack in the run game and was equally impressive in pass protection.
It’s unlikely the Colts will give Pinter the keys to the starting role without any competition. After all, he’s only started four games in his career.
This means the Colts could be inclined to re-sign veterans Chris Reed and/or Matt Pryor—both players are pending free agents.
Reed was one of the best free-agent signings during the 2021 offseason for the Colts as he provided above-average depth on the interior. His play when Quenton Nelson went down helped keep the offensive line from crumbling.
Pryor came to the Colts via trade before the regular season started and wound being a versatile piece working at both tackle and guard.
Chris Ballard is always preaching depth on the offensive line so it’s a bit surprising to see that Pryor and Reed haven’t been re-signed (as of this writing).
The Colts also have Will Fries, who was a seventh-round pick in 2021.
But with Glowinski heading to East Rutherford, the Colts still have options to consider at right guard.
