How different can we expect interim Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla to be from his predecessor, suspended Celtics head coach Ime Udoka? In terms of their approach to X’s and O’s on the court, Udoka and Mazzulla are pretty similar. Both value defense highly, with the latter leaning into his skill as an offensive specialist to Udoka’s specialty of defense.
Each of them also approach coaching as more of a collaborative venture than a top-down relationship, but where do they diverge as coaches — and why? While on the surface the answer might not seem important, it could well end up being the difference between a title and another near miss.
