Heading into the 2023 NBA playoffs, what is the Boston Celtics’ biggest weakness?

According to Bleacher Report’s Mo Dakhil, it is also the quality that has made the team one of the NBA’s most dangerous.

“The Celtics are going by the old adage: Live by the 3, die by the 3,” writes Dakhil. “That could be a big hurdle for Boston’s offense.

“Boston averages the second-most 3-point attempts in the league, epitomizing the make-or-miss nature of the NBA. In their wins, the Celtics are connecting 40.3% of their deep balls. In losses, they are shooting 31.6%.”

“Averaging so many more 3s than 2s makes the team easier to defend,” suggests the B/R analyst. “If multiple Celtics hit a cold streak from deep, that could spell doom for Boston’s hopes of getting to the finals again.”

Or, perhaps, a midrange specialist like Jaylen Brown could find himself in his element at a critical point of the season — we’ll take a positive outlook on Dakhil’s concerns for the moment.

But he does have a point. When opposing clubs have found ways to gum up Boston’s 3-point heavy offense, it hasn’t gone well for the Celtics.
