Halftime thoughts with the Jets tied, 3-3

The scoreless drought wasn’t as long as the one between the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners Saturday, but it sure felt like it was both the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers slugged through a scoreless first quarter before the Jets finally put three points on the board almost ten minutes into the second quarter.

Just before halftime, the Packers drove the field and kicked a 29-yard field goal of their own and we head into halftime deadlocked at 3-3.

The Jets’ defense has been fantastic all day so far. They are absolutely shutting down the Packers’ run game (19 yards on 11 carries) and have a takeaway (Lamarcus Joyner fumble recovery). They nearly had a pick-six early in the game from Sauce Gardner, but replay showed the tip of the football hit the ground before popping up into the air.

Quinnen Williams. What more needs to be said? He has another sack and two quarterback hits. The hope is he gets back on track after getting poked in the eye in the second quarter. Sheldon Rankins also has a sack as he has quietly been a solid player for New York as well this season.

Special teams is also getting into the mix as the Jets blocked a Mason Crosby field goal attempt to start the second quarter. Two of the Jets’ three units have played well through two quarters. The third unit, however, not so much.

The offense has been, how you say, no bueno. Well, Breece Hall has been running well once again. He has 55 yards on ten carries and also added five yards on two catches. Other than that…yikes.

Zach Wilson is 6/12 for 28 yards. The Jets have 17 net passing yards and Wilson has been sacked twice for 11 yards lost. No Jets receiver has even hit ten yards receiving. Garrett Wilson has eight yards on one catch and is again getting a case of the dropsies.

New York’s third-down issues are rearing their ugly heads again. The Jets are 0/7 on third down and have just three total first downs. They have a grand total of 80 net yards (63 rushing, 17 passing).

Yet, despite all that, the Jets are tied with the Packers, 3-3, because their defense has been incredible. They get the ball to start the second half. They need to continue feeding Hall. If they can get him going and get the offense in sync, they can win this game.
