Grant Williams undergoes hand surgery

Former Vol Grant Williams undergoes hand surgery.

Boston forward Grant Williams had surgery on his left hand.

Williams, who will become a restricted free agent this summer, is expected to be fully recovered for the start of NBA training camp.

He tore ligaments in his hand in March and continued to play as the Celtics advanced to the Eastern Conference finals.

Williams is expected to return to basketball activities in six to eight weeks.

He averaged career highs with 8.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, while playing 26 minutes per contest last season.

Williams played for the Vols from 2016-19. He left Tennessee after his junior season as a two-time SEC Player of the Year.

Williams was a first-round selection by Boston in the 2019 NBA draft (No. 22 overall).
