Giants-Packers preseason game gets time change

The preseason Week 3 game between the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers has had its kickoff time changed.

The New York Giants are now scheduled to get an earlier start against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3 of the preseason, announcing on Wednesday that the kickoff time had been moved from 8:00 p.m. ET to 6:00 p.m. ET.

A reason for the sudden change was not revealed.

Currently, the exhibition contest against the Packers is slated to be the Giants’ first home game of the preseason, but even with the time change, there’s no guarantee the NFL allows the game to be played.

Although nothing is set in stone as of yet, Tom Pelissero reports that the NFL and NFLPA are discussing the possibility of shortening the 2020 preseason from four games to two as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The thought behind shortening the preseason is to allow players additional “ramp-up” time after missing the usual offseason programs and practices, while also providing team doctors an opportunity to finalize game-day protocols, which will vastly differ from years past.

If the Giants and Packers do remain scheduled, it will be their first preseason meeting since Green Bay upended New York, 22-17, on August 22, 1997 in Madison, Wisconsin.
