Giants to sign ex-Packers guard Jon Runyan Jr.

The New York Giants are signing former Green Bay Packers guard Jon Runyan Jr., the son of Michael Strahan frienemy Jon Runyan.

The New York Giants addressed their interior offensive line issues by agreeing to a three-year deal with former Green Bay Packers guard Jon Runyon Jr. worth a reported $30 million ($17 million guaranteed).

Runyan, 26, was a sixth-round selection by the Packers out of Michigan back in 2020 and has played in 67 NFL games, starting 50.

He is the son of Jon Runyan Sr., who was a long-time offensive tackle for the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles, and San Diego Chargers during his 14-year NFL career. He had a notable rivalry-turned-friendship with Giants legend Michael Strahan.

The younger Runyon (6’4″, 307 lbs.) has been a reliable player over his last three seasons, starting 50 of 51 of the Packers’ regular season games and three postseason games.

The Giants are expected to sign at least one more guard and if they dip into the marker further, Runyan will compete for a starting role. He can play both right and left guard.
