Giants select Tristan Wirfs in final Mel Kiper Jr. mock draft

In the final mock draft from ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., the New York Giants select Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs.

Chalk another one up for Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, who continues to be the most commonly mocked player to the New York Giants.

In his final mock draft of the year, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah had Wirfs going No. 4 overall to the Giants and ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. agrees with that projection.

Kiper released the fifth and final version of his mock draft on Thursday morning and like Jeremiah, has the Giants staying put and taking Wirfs fourth overall.

My thinking here is that the Giants’ void at tackle is too great for them to pass on one here. Wirfs is an instant upgrade at right tackle. As I wrote on Wednesday, though, the Giants’ best-case scenario would be to trade down a couple of spots and still get Wirfs.

If the Giants could swing a trade down and still land Wirfs, that would be a tremendous win-win for general manager Dave Gettleman & Co. However, with teams actively trying to trade up with offensive tackles in mind, that might be a dangerous risk.
