New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley will undergo surgery on his torn ACL on Friday in Los Angeles.

Barkley sustained the injury in the Giants’ 17-13 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 2 and has had to wait to be operated on for several reasons.

The primary reason was that Barkley also injured his MCL in Chicago and the doctors had to wait out for the swelling to subside. The other reason for the delay is that the surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, is part of the Dodgers’ medical staff and was in the MLB bubble during the postseason.

The Dodgers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series this week, so Dr. ElAttrache is finally free to perform the procedure.

Barkley should be ready for training camp next summer by all accounts but that timeline will not be solidified for several months after the surgery.

Barkley has been around the team frequently since the injury occurred. He was seen on the sideline last week in Philadelphia and was also part of the controversial “maskless” late night party with several teammates, specifically quarterback Daniel Jones.
