Former New York Giants legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end, Michael Strahan, is the latest celebrity to take to the heavens.
Strahan has ben named to the crew of the NS-19 flight that will blast off on December 9 for Jeff Bezos’ space exploration company, Blue Origin.
The crew will include two honorary guests and four paying customers. Guests include Good Morning America co-anchor Michael Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley, the eldest daughter of Alan Shepard, who was the first American to fly to space. The four customers include space industry executive and philanthropist Dylan Taylor, investor Evan Dick, Bess Ventures founder Lane Bess, and Cameron Bess. Lane and Cameron Bess will become the first parent-child pair to fly in space.
So, Strahan is a guest, not a playing customer. They must include celebrities on these flights in order for the public to have any interest in the program.
Recently, 90 year-old Star Trek actor William Shatner was on one of Bezos’ missions.
Strahan’s post-football career has been on an upward trajectory so this news is symbolic of his rise to international stardom. Giant fans could probably care less about this development unless the mission was going to take some the underperforming Giants coaches and players along with them and not bringing them back.
