Giants injury report: Golden Tate, Eli Penny miss practice

New York Giants WR Golden Tate and FB Eli Penny missed practice on Wednesday, while TE Evan Engram was limited.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday as preparations for a Week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys got underway.

The good news is that quarterback Daniel Jones (hamstring/ankle) was once again taking first team reps and moving around well. He did not look hindered to any great degree and should be a full participant throughout the week.

On the downside of things, wide receiver Golden Tate (calf), tight end Evan Engram (ankle) and fullback Eli Penny (illness) were working on the side with trainers during the portion of practice open to the media.

Head coach Joe Judge had previously expressed optimism that Engram would play against the Cowboys, but sounded far less optimistic when it came to Tate.

“We’re going to keep Golden strictly with the trainers today, we’ll see where he goes going forward. Again, I know he’s going to do everything he can to be out there. We’re optimistic, we know he’s working hard with the trainers, we’ll see where he’s at physically,” Judge said.

“I want to be fair to him and make sure he gets the opportunity to get out there and show us if he can get out there on the field, stay on the field and be productive for us. Look, this guy’s done a good job for us, he’s been really fun to coach, so obviously we want all of our guys out there healthy.”

Finally, linebacker Kyler Fackrell took a step forward according to Judge and should see increased practice time this week.

Did not participate: WR Golden Tate (calf), FB Eli Penny (illness)

Limited participant: S Jabrill Peppers (ankle), TE Evan Engram (ankle), WR Sterling Shepard (rib)

Full participant: QB Daniel Jones (hamstring), CB Darnay Holmes (knee)
