Giants’ George Asafo-Adjei expect back for offseason workout program

The New York Giants expect offensive lineman George Asafo-Adjei to return on April 6 after missing his rookie season due to a concussion.

The New York Giants have drawn repeated praise for the job they did in the 2019 NFL Draft, landing players like quarterback Daniel Jones, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, wide receiver Darius Slayton and defensive back Julian Love.

However, there was one player drafted a year ago that the team was unable to utilize due to injury issues, and that was seventh-round offensive tackle George Asafo-Adjei.

The6-foot-5, 315-pound Asafo-Adjei suffered a concussion in training camp and ultimately spent the entire year on injured reserve, which was bad news for both the rookie and the Giants, who ended up needed legitimate help at their tackle spots.

That need persists going in 2020, and while the Giants are expected to either sign a tackle via free agency or select on in the draft, Asafo-Adjei is champing at the bit to return and show the team what he brings to the table.

The good news? Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports that Asafo-Adjei will be able to do exactly that when the team opens their offseason workout program on April 6.

Giants offensive tackle George Asafo-Adjei, who missed his entire rookie season with a concussion, is expected to join teammates on the field when camp opens April 6, another NFL source said.

The seventh-round pick from Kentucky — the only tackle general manager Dave Gettleman selected in either of his first two drafts — was not around the team much while healing last year.

Upon his return, Asafo-Adjei is expected to add a little versatility to his resume as he could take snaps at guard as well as tackle.

Asafo-Adjei has resumed training and is upbeat about beginning his NFL career, the source said. It is possible he could move to guard.

Whether he’s playing inside or outside, Asafo-Adjei is someone the Giants want to see on the field. They need as many quality offensive linemen as they can get and Asafo-Adjei looked like someone who could make some noise before being shut down last year.
