The New York Giants worst fears may be realized when veteran NFL reporter Adam Schefter reported that star running back Saquon Barkley likely suffered a torn ACL in the Giants’ 17-13 loss to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon.

If that is true, Barkley will undergo surgery and will likely be lost for the season. Before the injury, Barkley appeared to be on the verge of bouncing back from last week’s poor showing against the Steelers with 28 yards rushing on four carries.

The other major injury incurred by the Giants was wide receiver Sterling Shepard’s toe on his left foot that he sustained making a catch right before the half. Shepard returned to the game after the half but limped off in the first offensive series and did not return.

No other Giants appear to have been injured.
