49ers DL Arik Armstead calls on NFL to fix ‘trash’ MetLife Stadium turf

The San Francisco 49ers suffered a slew of injuries against the New York Jets on the poor turf at MetLife Stadium.

The 49ers’ 31-13 win over the Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium came with a heavy price. San Francisco suffered injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo, Raheem Mostert, Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas. While they weren’t all related to the turf at MetLife Stadium, a slew of other players on both sides were banged up because of the surface at the Jets’ home field.

For San Francisco they don’t get to escape it next week. They’re back at MetLife to take on the New York Giants who share a home stadium with the Jets.

49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead didn’t take long after the game to say something about the field conditions. He tweeted this a few minutes after the clock hit 0:00.

Armstead’s postgame complaint wasn’t the first though. Head coach Kyle Shanahan after the game told reporters the turf was something players had an issue with before the contest.

There’s a slim chance anything major is done about the field conditions between Week 2 and Week 3, so the 49ers will have to deal with this same turf in a week.
