The Giants got a good one. At least according to some football analysts.
The Giants received an A- from CBS Sports for deciding to move on from Joe Judge and bringing in former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as their head coach.
Daboll was hired quickly after the Giants brought in former Buffalo assistant GM Joe Schoen to be their general manager:
Pairing coaches and GMs shouldn’t be a necessity, but Daboll arriving with ex-Bills executive Joe Schoen makes his hire all the more encouraging. On his own merits, the former Buffalo OC sure seems like a wise deviation from Joe Judge, who spewed tough talk but never oversaw any actual development, especially on offense and under center. Whether it’s Daniel Jones or someone else at QB, Daboll’s work with Josh Allen — and prior time at Alabama and with the Patriots — at least proves he’s helped grow and sustain flourishing organizations.
Can Daniel Jones turn into the next Josh Allen? Probably not. But Daboll will use Jones’ running ability like Allen to open up New York’s offense. Jones doesn’t have the arm talent like Allen but his athleticism should allow Daboll to keep some of his core offensive components at the Meadowlands.
It’s Daboll’s first time in a head coaching role and he won’t be able to hide from scrutiny as he did in Buffalo. He’ll have some leniency with Jones as his quarterback. If he wants to keep his job he’ll have to hope for some improvement in 2022 or hold out for a knockout star in the 2023 draft.
