The Georgia women’s basketball team finished with a losing record for the first time since 1978-1979. Georgia’s season is over after falling to Kentucky in the SEC Tournament. Georgia finishes the year with a record of 12-18.
The second year under head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson did not go as planned for the Lady Bulldogs. Georgia senior forward Javyn Nicholson was a bright spot for the Lady Bulldogs. Nicholson averaged 16.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, earning second-team All-SEC honors.
The fact that Georgia has not had a losing season in over 40 years shows how consistent the Lady Bulldogs have been since going 6-19 in 1978-1979.
What is next for Georgia?
Georgia women’s basketball will have a lot of roster turnover ahead of next season. The Lady Bulldogs have five fifth-year seniors, including Javyn Nicholson, so Katie Abrahamson-Henderson will have a very different roster next year.
Georgia went just 3-13 in the SEC this season. The Dawgs did make the NCAA Tournament a year ago and still have the resources to consistently qualify for March Madness.
Abrahmason-Henderson has a solid incoming recruiting class with four incoming players ranked among the ESPN top-100. The Lady Bulldogs will likely look to the transfer portal to add a few pieces as well.
