Former Georgia Bulldogs assistant coach D.J. Looney passed away tragically on the first day of August. Looney suffered a heart attack at a workout. He was working as an assistant coach at Louisiana-Lafayette and passed too young at the age of 31.
Looney previously played for Mississippi State University from 2007 to 2010. Following his college football career, Looney immediately caught on as a graduate assistant at Mississippi State.
He was considered a rising star in coaching and helped Louisiana have the sixth best rushing offense in the country last season. Looney served as a graduate assistant at Georgia under Sam Pittman during the 2016 season.
Here’s how Twitter is remembering Looney:
DJ Looney. There are a lot of people hurting today from the loss of this wonderful person. He made me a better person, husband, and coach. Jamie and I loved him as our own son. God took an Angel to be an Angel for his Kingdom. Please pray for his family, players and friends #love pic.twitter.com/c5oc51F8x4

Unbelievably sad. I’ll always remember the many calls D.J. made on my behalf while I was trying to break into the coaching profession. He was always looking to serve someone. Cherish every minute of life. Rest easy friend. https://t.co/1GSUsKJxuB

This one hurts. The entire institution of football just took a hit. This guy loved his players and the game. He was the unofficial mayor of every room he was ever in and we loved him for it. Rest easy Governor Looney 🙏🏼🙏🏼😔😔 #RIP https://t.co/omGWMVegem
