Georgia Bulldogs freshman tight end Brock Bowers tied the school record for receiving touchdowns in a single season during the SEC championship.
Bowers scored his 11th receiving touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter of the SEC championship. Bowers’ touchdown has tied him with Georgia football legend Terrence Edwards, who scored 11 receiving touchdowns in 2002.
Bowers will have a chance to break the school record in the College Football Playoff semifinals against Michigan. Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines will plan to limit Bowers, but that is easier said than done.
Brock Bowers was a mismatch against Alabama in the SEC championship. Bowers burned Alabama for 10 receptions, 139 receiving yards, and one touchdown. Bowers showed an impressive catch radius and had a few broken tackles on his touchdown reception.
Bowers deserved to be a finalist for the John Mackey Award, which is awarded to the nation’s top tight end. Bowers will have an opportunity to win the award again next year. For now, he is focused on helping Georgia make it back to the National Championship.
