Georges Niang sees a different Shake Milton on offense for Sixers

Georges Niang sees a different Shake Milton on the offensive end of the floor for the Philadelphia 76ers.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to contend for a title in the 2022-23 season. To do so, they need everybody on the roster to contribute on the floor.

The Sixers made a couple of additions they expect will help that cause, but they also have some mainstays that need to step up. One of those is Shake Milton.

The fifth-year veteran out of SMU is coming off an up-and-down 2021-22 season in which he only played 55 games and he shot 42.9% overall and 32.3% from deep. He averaged 8.2 points, but the Sixers need him to contribute more.

“I think he’s looked great,” said Georges Niang. “Shake has had an unbelievable preseason and camp and I can kind of speak to this because I was injured at the end of last year, and when you’re playing with an injury or coming back from injury, you’re not 100% yourself. So the fact that he had a whole offseason to work on that and be free and can free his mind and just be the Shake that we know he all can be and he’s shown that. It’s been really impressive.”

Milton averaged double-figures in points in both the 2019-20 season and the 2020-21 season. If he can get near that type of production again, it would be a welcomed addition to the Sixers and a boost to their bench unit.

“I couldn’t be happier for him because Shake’s kind of a soft-spoken guy,” Niang added. “He just shows up every day and just works. He never complains, he’s never too high, he’s never too low, he just shows up every day, and gets it done, and that’s what a true professional is. He deserves a lot of credit for that because he’s a heck of a basketball player.”
