Overall: F
Wisconsin was able to cut New Mexico’s lead to as little as three points twice in the second half as the last time Wisconsin trailed by that much was at 48-45 with 5:32 to go in the game.
But Wisconsin could never get over the hump and come up with the stop they needed on the defensive end or come up with a successful offensive possession.
After Kobe King’s made jumper to cut the lead to 48-45, the Badgers went 1-for-10 from the field the rest of the game as their next made field goal didn’t come until there were 52 seconds left, which cut the Lobos lead to 54-50.
Even then down two possessions, it appeared the lead was insurmountable as after Trice’s made field goal in the paint Wisconsin’s next five shot attempts all came from three all of which resulted in misses.
New Mexico always had an answer for Wisconsin with a run of their own to extend the lead back and make sure momentum stayed on their side. New Mexico was able to ice the game over the last minute as they went 5-for-6 from the free throw line and finished the game 12-for-15 from the charity stripe.
Outside of Reuvers success on offense, the rest of the Badgers shot a combined 11-for-44 from the field. Simply put that’s not going to cut it as all-around minus for Reuvers it wasn’t a great two days of shooting for Wisconsin as they shot a combined 35-for-103 (33.9 percent) from the field.
Game MVP: Nate Reuvers
Once again Wisconsin needed Reuvers to find a way of scoring in order for Wisconsin’s offense to have success. He was able to deliver in this area by scoring 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the field. But he also was responsible for five of Wisconsin’s 14 turnovers and he fouled out for the first time this season. Reuvers finished the game with five rebounds and was responsible for Wisconsin’s lone block.
